Doesn’t seem to exist. This is weird. There are PC versions. There once was a Mac program called SofTTY (aw…), but that company no longer exists, plus it was $75 versus the free versions offered for the PC.
I’m pretty certain at this point that I’ll be able to deal entirely with IP relay — especially with IP relay that works with instant messaging. I’ll post about this later, as I’ve got about 3 different services that I’m trying to work my way through to see who has the best combination of user experience and technology.
But I’ve got to (got to, got to) make a call to the IRS (long story) and know there maybe other conversations — banks, hospitals, etc. — that seem to require some level of security and privacy. Plus they all give out TTY/TTD numbers, which would seem to suggest that whoever is on the receiving end of that call is going to (a) know how to use the device (as if I do) and (b) know how to communicate with the deaf/hh.
What happens if the IRS gets a relay call to their regular information line? Or the doctor? Or the bank? Will the person answering it know what to do?
Should I care? Probably not. But I hate to have some customer service person be uncomfortable and freak out. I don’t want to be on the receiving end of that either.
Calling it be hyper-aware. Or just socially anxious.

I got a kick out of your comment that businesses offer TTY lines and thus must know how to use them.
In reality, businesses forget all about the TTY line the minute it is installed. Good luck trying to get any business to answer their own TTY number.
