Video: Teri discusses three different things; DeafRead b/vlogs, Deaf folks in Cape Cod?, and DeafHope Tea Party.
Note from Teri:
Hello, Deaf Dish/Minuit Teri Readers,
Here's a bit from the movie, Return of the Jedi (Jeri - Teri)
Han Solo: Together again.
Luke: Wouldn't miss it.
Han Solo: How we doin'?
Luke: Same as always.
Han Solo: That bad, huh?
My life:? It is pretty much the same — as always!
I now am BACK!! Together again! You better not miss it!
You now know why I came up with such a silly title!
For more information on DeafHope Tea Party (Alice in Cyberland), please visit their website.
By the way, I forgot to sign "friend" after saying "my childhood". Oops! You know I will not redo vlogs. Only one attempt, every vlog!
Correction: International Day of Sign Languages will be taken place on the 29th of Sept. not the 27th. It seems I will have to wear a black shirt for DeafHope Tea party, rather than wearing pastel colored clothings like those British women attending tea parties.
Mother's Confusion: Chance is the no. 5 kid, not the 6th. And he is 12 years old, not 13! Whew! I seem to be senile these days! Let's say…. out of shape vlogging! Wink!

Welcome back, Jeri!

Welcome back!
As you said, “Summer vacation is over.” And the blogs/vlogs shall increase their number once again.
September 12th, 2007 at 12:25 am
I live in Boston (actually 15 minutes drive to Boston). Deaf Community mostly lives in Boston area or right outside of that area. A very few Deaf that I know live down the Cape. Yes it is sad. Many from Martha’s Vineyard flocked to ASD and Gallaudet which were first established many years ago. — Deaf Community did some theatre events on Martha’s Vineyard last year or two. Deaf History/MV must be preserved - I agree with you. I grew up near Plymouth area. I often went there. If you are planning to come back next year — come to Boston or I’ll find you somewhere in Cape Cod. lol … BTW Welcome back after the 2 months vacation.

Hi there, Teri!
I’m so excited to see you back to vlogging again! I’ve missed people.
I’m also excited about Deaf-Hope’s Alice-in-Cyberland Tea Party. I look forward to meeting you ad the other female vloggers as well!
Thanks for the nice words! See you soon!

Welcoome back! I agree with you on one point about Cape Cod. I used to vacation there with my mother and her family there annually in 1960s-1970s, but never had we ever bumped into a deaf person there — all the
way from Hingham to Cossett to Provincetown. I think that Martha’s Village lost deaf Vineyards to Connecticut since Clerc founded a signing school (ASD) in West Hartford in 1816. Massachusetts has been an “oral”
state for over two centuries.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyy!!!!
Heelllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooo!!!!
Jeri has returnth! Great to see you again!!!
As for Cape Cod - hmm, interesting indeed. Probably because there hasn’t been a deaf person living in that area to pass on the history?
Boston Tea Party - it sounds like fun and I hope it’ll be videotaped so we all can grab some popcorn and watch!
I’m so glad you are back - it did get tiring checking your website from time to time and seeing nothing new! hehe!

Welcome back, Jeri;
I always enjoyed your vlog since the premiere of vlog opened in a year ago. 9 minutes does not make me feel too longer. Your vlog is always exceptional!
I recalled the recent vlog of Joey Baer’s topic discussion on “language” where his family went to Europe this summer to communicate fluently with hearing people by using gesture and body language. he saw what hearing Americans have no common sense to communicate with deaf people by using gesture communication and body language. That’s unfortuante! I absolutely agreed on his views between Europeans and Americans in different approaches.
I wish the historical sign erect in Martha’s Vineyard to elaborate how the deaf and hearing population lived long time ago through the sign language and gesture communication. The decline of population have dimished due to flock over the mainlands such as American School for the Deaf and migrate to Gallaudet University (National Institutes of Deaf-Mutes College, correct me if I am mistake). The historical sign will educate hearing visitors to learn about our historical preservation in ASL and culture.
I wish I could attend your tea party in Bay Area to show my support and to learn from your ladies into rapport discussion based on vlogs/blogs to increase my personal knowledge include other viewers. My foot nailed stuck here in the capital city of United States. I wish you all the best luck and endeavor.
I look forward to view your next episode of Deaf Dish. Have a good day!

Hi Teri!
Welcome Back! How did you feel that your oldest daughter is now out of the world?
All your boys with no girls are under the same roof….enjoy yourself and get to know the boys’ way! Make sure to tell the boys NOT to play wrestling too much.
Looking forward to see you more of your vlogs.

Teri, so good to see a bright star back on the horizon!
Yes, the Marthas Vineyard history should be preserved and maybe even made into a tourist attraction in the form of a small museum or display in city hall, if there is one there.
Did you use your awesome photo talents to take pictures of key spots? And compliments on your kids’ photos…some of them just blow me away, especially the wistful ones and the action shots. Keep it up, please!

Welcome Back Teri!
Didn’t know you were down in Cape! Smiles… I’m up in Boston area… I wanted you to know that having Martha’s Vineyard closeby means people should know Deaf Culture and sign language. Not true. Cape Cod is filled with lot of people from all the walks of the world, it’s a place where people come and go (like you for example) I’ve been to Cape alot and I do not expect anyone to know signs when I approach them. I know a few Deaf locals there and they say the same thing. Cape is beautiful place to visit and I’ve dreamed of establishing bed n breakfast there. That’s will only happen if I win the Powerball Lottery.
Welcome back!
September 12th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
Nice to have you back!!
I know it’s sad about the Martha Vineyard’s deaf history being dying out there especially to the hearing culture.
It would be nice if you take a picture of all together and probably make some vlogs? if time permit for you

Welcome back! I’ve found MVY history to be intriquing. I wonder if you know for sure if any of MVY residence are ancenstors of the orginal inhabitant of that island? If so, then surely some still know signs or are aware of deaf culture? If not, then, I guess that explains it? Perhaps all the orignal families descendants have all died out or moved away from that area?

THANK GOD YOU ARE BACK! DONT EVER LEAVE US!
LETS CHANGE THE LUKE’S LINE:
LUKE: NOT SAME (instead of same as always)
LOL!
KNOW WHAT IT IS MY FIRST TIME WRITING YOU A COMMENT. I FEEL BAD FOR NOT DOING SINCE YOU SET UP VLOG.WHEN YOU MENTIONED APATHY. I AM GULITY! I PROMISE I WILL BE MORE PROACTIVE FOR THE DEAF.
DONT LEAVE US ON THE DARK STAR.
September 12th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
Teeeerrrrrriiiii! Thank God for your return, Jeri.
I must agree with Dianrez that you are a bright star. It was not the same at DeafRead over the summer. .
Dianrez, you are right! Your photos are soooooooooooooooo ummmmmmmmmmmmm sooooooooo phenomenal! They blow my mind. It is very rare to see young children not being silly or playful. Your photos are priceless.
CPM, you are right! Teri, listen him, dont abandon us. I see several X-wings coming to rescue us.

C,
I suspect that some of Martha’s Vineyarders’ descendants were spreading
in Connecticut and eventually in some parts of the country. Their deaf
gene never dies away. To find the names of Vineyarders enumerated each ten years by the U.S. Census of Bureau can be located in the National Archives. Then ask the Information Office at the American
School for the Deaf for the names of students being enrolled between
1816 and thereafter. Then visit http://www.FamilyTreeDNA.com. Click
“Surname Project” to look for the last names of the ones you desire to do research on. If you find your surname there, probably you would like to
participate in Y-DNA (if you are a male). Your testing would reveal which
branch of families you descend from. Very exciting because the results
of the testing would lead you to have many newly-found distant cousins!

Welcome BAAAAaack, Teri!!
Wow!!! It was soOO GOOD to see you BACK!!!! I had been wondering and hoping that you and family will be safe while I thought about long road trip with the RV but WOW about 13 on flight trip!!!
First yes I agreed with you about DBC.. 2nd, I am so STUNNED and so sad about Martha Vineyard!! I hope there will be Back to the Future Martha Vineyard’s Deafhood some day soon!! Oh GREAT that you will be meeting 7 or 6 vloggers at DeafHope Tea Party and I will be looking foward to watch that!!! I cannot wait!!!
September 15th, 2007 at 4:26 pm
HI, Welcome back!!
It is strange you went to cape cod for 12 years and never met one DEAF person. I went to provicetown (my first time) and I bumped into three Deaf people at three different times there in one day. strange…
enjoy watching your vlog.

Hey Teri!
Glad you had a good summer and a much needed break to enjoy your vacation like I did! Surely looking forward getting together with you all!
Now you have sparked me to tell a story that I have experienced in Cape Cod regarding the camp owners and the police and how we communicate. It was totally bizarre. Guess who would be the bad guy? Gonna vlog about it someday!
September 30th, 2007 at 2:18 pm
So, how did it go with the Deaf Tea Party?!!
Looking forward to your vlog about that!!

Hi Jeri,
I am a writer living on Cape Cod, and I have been fascinated and drawn to the story of the deaf community on Martha’s Vineyard for a long time. Do you know much about it? Have you ever discovered a book or an in-depth study? I would love to discuss it with you! I’m very close to the island, and can easily go there to research. I’d love to write about it. I hope we’ll be in touch soon.

Hi, Jeri:
I live on Cape Cod and know many deaf. I go to a sign language congregation in Buzzards Bay not far from the Cape Cod Canal. I think during tourist times here, everyone, including deaf, works many hours. No time to play in the summer… pleanty of time off in the winter (smile).
