Approximately 80 rainbow colored homing pigeons were released just before the Town Hall on September 6. Those who attended the event noticed an orange pigeon separating from the flock and may have been concerned it was being left behind. In actuality it was the smartest bird of the bunch and it was showing the others the way home. All of the pigeons made it home successfully.

Colorful homing pigeons, owned by Every Celebration of Galesville, Md., make a vivid contrast against a clear blue sky. Click here to see a video of a release of the birds before President Davila’s Town Hall meeting.

A September 6 Town Hall led by President Davila was preceded by a colorful and inspiring ceremony on Hotchkiss Field where a bevy of multi-colored homing pigeons, led by ones of Bison colors yellow and blue, were released, symbolizing a new beginning for Gallaudet.

“We’re making progress in moving our university forward to its rightful and traditional place at the top!” Davila said before the cue was given to Reedy Hines, age 9, and his sister Amberlin, age 12, owners of Every Celebration, to release the birds.

After looping the football field, creating a palette of color against a cloudless blue sky, all of the birds winged their way safely to the Hines family home in Galesville, Md.
