As I went through various job interviews, I have been offended over and over. They were only willing to pay up to 8.00$ hourly. That is so offensive that they think I am willing to put myself through hell for that measly wage.
Is that a living wage? No.
Why? They don't offer any benefits such as dental insurance, health insurance, or paid vacation days, sick days, et cetera.
8.00$ at 30 hours only brings you 240$ weekly. So a month (4 weeks) will only get you 960 dollars. And wait until the government takes their pie and left you with 850$.
Eight hundred and fifty dollars?! You got your rent to worry about, your utilities bill to fret over, and to top it off-- YOU HAVE NO IDEA if you will get a fever and then miss some days which will dock your pay!
This is DELIRIOUS.
It is DELIRIOUS that the Target is only willing to pay 7.50 after I asked for 8.50$ hourly.
This is DELIRIOUS because what the fuck does my BA degree count? It apparently doesn't matter to them that I poured money into a piece of paper so I can get pay sensibly...
Fuck colleges. If you are 16, you better get a job just to rack up experience so you can get some decent job without shortchanging yourself with minimum wage of 7.50$ at age 21.
Am I delirious for saying NO to Target and walking away so I can find a better-paying job?

Wifi-Free Spots
Okay, I have gone to lengths to find wifi-free spots in Alexandria, VA and I decided to share my knowledge to spare the new residents the troubles of finding the right wifi-free spots....
There are currently only three wifi-free spots in Alexandria, and two are in Old Town on the same street, and another is in Del Ray.
Bruegger's Bagels on King Street got the BEST and FAST wifi connection. They do require you to register, but you can bypass it.
COSI is next second best, also on King Street, they do require you to register and you cannot bypass it-- their connection is so-so, so if you can, ask them where is the best seat to get good reception. I doubt they know anyway... but they got darn good Vanilla Latte!! (Somebody had told me about the reception here that the "signal is strongest near the entranceway and bar area. Signal tends to get weaker in the rear of the restaurant.")
Caboose Bakery/Cafe in Del Ray on Mount Vernon Street got the worst wifi-connection-- it is unbelievable SLOW (as if it is a dial-up connection!) and their menu is OVERPRICED. Don't bother to go there... when you can go several more blocks to Old Town.
In Washington D.C., there are ZILLIONS of wifi-free spots but I am only reporting for Alexandria... because information is precious as well time.

Adapted
Alexandria, Virginia is my new home. The affordable housing in the District is run-down and lack all necessarities for a vegetarian. Alexandria, VA is NOT far as people clamoured. It is only less than 30minutes by public transportation, less than 20minutes if drive own car-- and that is close by my standards. You should trust a Californian when it comes to time and distance-- after all, we measure our distance in time, not miles.
There is a vegetarian-friendly organic market a skip over from my home, and I am only 3 minutes away from two major grocery stores. Yay, this is a step closer to be green! Unfortuantely, my apartment complex does not have a recycling bin! I will need to press them to establish one so we can recycle our plastic, cardboard/papers and aluminum cans.
So far, the District doesn't strike any chords in my heart. The weather is not helping it any. I am already looking forward to the winter-- when it is near the freezing point... anything is better than this humidity.
I have contemplated on my escape plan to be applied every summer whereas I will fly out to San Diego where the aridness prevails. Probably will keep me sane-- maybe meanwhile I should just go to Bath & Body works and buy cocount-scented lotions... maybe seawater and kelp if they got any... naw, SexWax will do the trick for me. I love its scent!
So far, I have no luck with jobs. I began to wonder if I am overqualified or the fact that I am Deaf has detered the job employers from hiring me. I wonder what is the living wage in this proximity? For me, anything below 15$ hourly is not feasible. My friends keep forgetting the fact that I do have a BA degree. Does my degree count for something? It appears to not in the District.
It just shows you that BA is just a piece of paper... and nobody cares about your qualifications unless you show years of experiences or even better, a MA/PH.D... BA is just like a high school diploma 10 to 20 years ago... and like a diploma, BA doesn't take you anywhere.
Sad but true.
Otherwise-- cross your fingers for me as I apply at many, many jobs (20 applications have been sent out)...
