This video is no longer available

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

nolongeravailable.jpgYouTube users take down their videos all the time. While this is perfectly fine, these deleted videos still were showing on DeafVIDEO.TV. It’s a bit of a frustration going to a video only to find out it’s no longer. This well-known message is written on the video: “This video is no longer available”. Drrats!

I’ve just written a script that checks twice hourly (automatically) for deleted videos in the 25 most recent videos. This greatly minimizes the chance of finding a deleted video, especially on the front page.

What about older videos beyond the 25 most recent ones? A variation of the above script will check all videos in DeafVIDEO.TV. (As of today, there are 1,249 videos. That’s a lot of checking. :) ) I plan on running this script on a less frequent basis, maybe once a day or week. The first run of this script found 70 deleted videos.
