Blockbuster day at DeafVIDEO.TV

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Welcome to the DeafVIDEO.TV blog. This will be an effective way of communicating updates and new features made available on the site. Moreover, the blog is integrated into the site design, so the look and feel is familiar.

The first full day of DeafVIDEO.TV since its launch announcement was spectacular. Tuesday’s traffic saw the following numbers:

  • 864 Visits
  • 8,581 Pageviews

This is especially exciting because it is almost on par with DeafRead’s traffic. I fully expect traffic to go down as the novelty wears off. DeafVIDEO.TV as the center of the vlogging world remains to be seen.

It’s common courtesy to return traffic to websites that sent you visitors. I would like to thank the following blogs for the mention by linking to them.

Also there was a distribution via a mailing list. Thanks, David Pierce and everyone.

Here’s a little known secret about ASL.DeafVIDEO.TV. As you know, there are two languages currently supported. They are American and British Sign Language. The direct address for ASL is ASL.DeafVIDEO.TV; while BSL is accessed at BSL.DeafVIDEO.TV. There is also another way to visit ASL.DeafVIDEO.TV: simply visit ASLVideo.TV!

The name DeafVIDEO.TV is vague. Video signers do not have to be deaf to be subscribed to by DeafVIDEO.TV. ASLVideo.TV is the more appropriate name, however, because we’re not limiting ourselves to ASL, and have plans to include more languages, DeafVIDEO.TV becomes the global name. “Deaf” is the common denominator across all languages.

I recieved a couple of questions in email and would like to answer them here:

Does DeafVIDEO.TV upload everything that I put on YouTube, or only those that I mark as ‘public’?

Only videos marked as public will be shown on DeafVIDEO.TV. If you prefer to make a video private, you can share them with specific YouTube members. If your video is public, thus making it available to be shown on your website, DeafVIDEO.TV will know about it.

If you have videos that you do not want published on DeafVIDEO.TV, but yet want them to be available publicly, create an YouTube account exclusively for DeafVIDEO.TV. You can have as many accounts as you wish.

Will DeafVIDEO.TV automatically upload my previous videos that are on YouTube?

Yes, DeafVIDEO.TV will get your 20 latest videos. They will be sorted by date, so for example, if your most recent uploaded video was last week, it may not show on the first page. Inversely, if you upload a video more recently, depending on the upload dates of the other videos, it may be shown on the front page. Any newly uploaded video will go on the top.

If you haven’t uploaded videos to YouTube in a while, check your DeafVIDEO.TV profile. It may take an hour or two before your username is activated. To find your profile, for example, my profile is at www.deafvideo.tv/user/taylerade or look for your username on the left-hand column.
