IamMine shares her thoughts on including “handiologists” as a routine for deaf and hearing children, based on her experiences with her daughter for her Visual And Hearing Screening test - a requirement for all children before they entered Kindergarten.

Haha! Deaf families get their hearing kids to work with their arms/hands work much better than others!! I have seen plenty here!!
Good way to start a career for you? Let's do it! :)
Handiologists? Nah. :) You just did a good job teaching your kid to pay attention. Maybe that other kid is stupid, or wasn't really taught to pay attention. Many possible reasons for why that kid didn't do so good, really.
*handwaves* You're back!
Oh, not that kind of handiologist? ;-)
I liked your notion.
Cute label. Cheremologist? Keep Latin elements?
William Stokoe who wrote the first American Sign Language Dictionary mentions cheremes for specific hand shapes in ASL.
By the way, I'm glad to see you back here!
You know, KODAs have better attention span... they listen more with their eyes than normally the hearing children would...
Handiologist... hmmm... what will be next thing, footiologist? Hairiologist... Ha, ha... oh the words we could take credit for inventing words! ;-)
Ahh ha I spy IamMine in Deafread.com!!!
I love your idea! Actually there are some hearing people who are unable to coordinate a simple shape using their hands. For example, my dad teaches ASL in a community college and he told me that he asked his students to follow him by using an index finger forming a triangle. To his surprise, not even half of his class was able to do it correctly. It took them almost half an hour to follow his hand directions when making several more shapes.
So you do have a good point here! As far as I know, there are occupational therapists working on some parts of the body such as coordinating handwriting or focusing fine motor skills for children who are struggling. But a handilogist...that's an interesting idea!
Kudos to see you back!
Hey all!
I’m glad you liked the idea – even if it seems like a “silly” idea!
BEG – you had me laughing!! You. Are. So. Bad!
I’ve got my own personal handiologist – but as you can see why I wouldn’t allow him to be a professional handiologist here - Hubby Bobby the “handiologist”
Ha! Seriously, I was thinking about that a lot – especially since Aidan saying how we should have our right as a position to be involved in the process of babies being discovered to be deaf at hospitals and at doctors’ office – they should refer them, not only to audiologists – but also to handiologists!!!
That way, we would get fair input – not what “they” tell them about deaf people and their education, etc… but they'd see in real action and showing them with their babies or children with others!
Carl – ah, I like your way of fancy words! :D
in my opinion, that another girl was not paying attention what the lady try to tell her what to do for her eye or hearing test so she probably have an ADD.
Your daugther was doing so well and she was good at pay attention to that hearing or eye testing so that means she is normal. See the difference.
But I could be wrong.
Jac - thanks for bringing that up!
That's one possibility I hadn’t thought of.
Still though... :)
IamMine,
Way to go! :-) Handiologists should
test fingerspelling and sign
language of faculty, staff, and
students at Gallaudet and all
schools for the deaf. :-)
*walk down the street of DeafRead*
*flashes from the right*
*turn slowly in dread*
*THERE, MEL IS BACK AND SIGNING WITTY!*
*faint from terror*
*slowly come to*
Oh! Just kidding, of course!
Glad to see you are back!
I like your idea :). That would be amusing to watch hearing people react to doctors who actually study hands that is so so important to our lives, not just deaf but hearing people too because they gestures a lot too!
Jean - you'd be perfect for the job!!
With Davila working on the DPS... :D
Oscar - too funny.
Guess I wasn't fast enough... hehe!! ;)
Ah, don't worry - as long as you avoid the alleys, you'll be fine. :D
Wow! What an interesting topic! I never thought of a word "handiologist" before. Good explain of meaning.
You're a good observed at hands.:-) Maybe you could be an handiologist someday?
Good vlogging.
HAHAHAHA -- Laughter Out of Hand !!! Yeah that "HAND" ... isn't that good enough ???
Here are Defination of those positions, below:
Like Audiologist -- to check HOW MUCH YOU CAN HEAR. TO SEE IF YOU ARE "ENOUGH" HEARING OR NOT !!!!!!
Ok now Handiologist -- to check HOW MUCH YOU CAN FINGER OUT. TO SEE IF YOU ARE "ENOUGH" DEAF OR NOT !!!!!!
HOW ENOUGH -- HOW CREATIVE !!! "to be the best hearing ???" NO NO ... now it should go as for all of us deafies, below:
"TO BE THE BEST DEAF ???" YES YAY. WAY GO for "Eyeth" planet for us. LOL.
You couldn't let go of those frogs :-)
Did you see any goats?
