Ron,
Can you tell us what MJ thinks of the situation with SLCC? We never get a full story from her. When she is confronted with questions, she tends to avoid them. Why isnt she doing anything?
TS
Any particular Gally individuals for me to email and send b.c.c. to you? Kathie have an excellent point.
Anything else from the GUAA? Any GUAA chapters? Any near future meeting in DC area?
Invite the local media for the growing concerns about the SLCC building via interview. That will make the Gallaudet adminstration responsive to your concern about the SLCC’s floor plans.
We need to find more about what JKF previously sell the idea on SLCC to finanical donors and the Gallaudet Board of Trustees in the past.
Gallaudet University’s Development Office is the place to start with.
Why not set up the rally outside Gallaudet and force the adminstration to respond to the concerns about the SLCC’s floor plans? So people will not get PNG or reprisal. Or talk to the media and contact the grassroot activism what to do and conduct the attention-getting effort.
I will send you a private email message about contacting some deaf individuals like Sonny’s father. He could persuade Sonny and Andy Lange to explore and question the last bastion of audism on Gallaudet campus - SLCC’s illogical floor plans largely devoted to the speech therapies and language science facility for communicative assistance.
Set up the email and snail mail campaign to the Office of President and GUAA and the Development Office and SLCC committee and media people. They could not ignore or dismiss your concerns.
I am not saying that it should be MJ’s responsibility, but she HAS access to people who can support her. She is involved with SLCC. We need to know her position. She has changed a lot over the years. Sadly, she is no longer the radical or strong deaf person we know. Perhaps she is gallaudetized! I am glad there is someone like Ron who is reporting things to us. We need to do something. I think Gallaudet people including MJ and others are too afraid or weak to do anything. We need more outsiders!
ok now i understand you.
i agree that many options should be explored.
aslta could create a branch office at gally, thats one option
i fear that all this hubbabubba about the success of ASL/English among deaf children or the recent research seem to make little impression on people.
it doesnt seem to impress the people at us dept of education..
outside support will be appreciated..
but things need to improve or happen on the homefront.
fssa or the union need to take a stand.
I am learning more about SLCC —audio, speech, etc. Since I was used to be ASL teacher for a local community, I am totally deaf myself. I noticed ASL is usually under a foreign language at most of places as high school, university, or college like you said on this lvog. My home area is strongly SEE, I tried to fight for ASL beat SEE, but it is hard because I had to get all parents to stand up behind me to speak out. See this example for so you have to get all deaf people to sign petition to stop them for SLCC or change the plan better to add ASL or change the name From SLCC to ASLCC like that.
I am back. Opps! I want to say my comment recently this above me. I did not see some views of your vlog a while ago, I viewed about SLCC has to remain that name for sign on the building since “S” is for Sorenson that they made a donation to Galluduet so they wanted their “Sorenson” name on a new floor plan. I got it now. I wanted this to be corrected! All thing is I do say to add ASL program in SLCC, also get all people to sign petition to require to have ASL program for all new students from outside or mainstream programs to learn more about ASL included gesture, lingustist, eye gaze, facial experessions, communication, body language, etc. That will help their students improve their skills with ASL communcation better and more comfortable with a social life!
RLM - why don’t you go and check the facts with Gallaudet administration yourself? Didn’t you see the SLCC link in the Gallaudet U website? It was there for quite a while for all to see and I’m frankly surprised that you are still in the dark.
Instead of inciting others to rallies, etc. - check with the school yourself and see. If you do, most of your questions or myths will be answered.
I want to know who am I e-mailing to?
Thanks!
Kathie

whoa
i respect mj’s opinion and appreciate her contributions.
but why is it up to mj??
seem like an unfair burden placed on one person-
actually the ball is in fssa’s court
it is up to fssa to remedy this situation.
and thats my opinion
