Bluegrass Community College and KSD

Editor's note: I think it is sooo wonderful to see that happen at KSD. As a BCTC student myself (and a Gally alum) , I am very proud of the college's partnership with KSD to enchance the technology of the future. My nephew is a 6 years old KSD student and he already knows how to use the Sidekick! It shows how far along the kids are now. Happy Reading!

BCTC partners with Kentucky School for the Deaf for Computer Literacy

LEXINGTON, KY (February 7, 2007) – Students at the Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD) are having a hands-on experience in the field of technology thanks to a recent Dr. Kerley with KSD studentsdonation of Dell Computers from Bluegrass Community & Technical College’s (BCTC) Danville campus.  The computers, installed in late December, replaced outdated eight-year old equipment at the school.

“Bluegrass Community & Technical College is proud to partner with another Danville educational institution to further computer literacy in the K – 12 setting” said Dr. Jim Kerley, President/CEO of BCTC.  “I am impressed with their wonderful initiatives, dedication and creative approach to education.  KSD serves a much needed function in education”.

The computers will not only be used to help students become more computer savvy KSD studentsbut will also be instrumental in helping KSD’s new Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) get off to a great start.  The program, eligible to 4 – 12 graders at the school, began last fall.  "The goal of STLP is to develop technology skills that will help our students function independently as citizens of the 21st Century.  The BCTC gift better allows STLP and all students at KSD to obtain these goals" said Lisa Morse, Technology Resource Teacher at the Kentucky School for the Deaf.

Students at KSD were so excited to receive the new computers that they helped plan an appreciation day for BCTC President Dr. Jim Kerley and staff on February 6.  The event showcased students in a game of math Jeopardy, certificates of appreciation from the students, and a luncheon hosted by KSD teachers and staff.
