Roger Coyer
was honored at the Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce dinner on Friday, Jan 26 with the KSD School Bell Award

The Kentucky School for the Deaf nominates Mr. Roger Coyer as the recipient of our School Bell Award for his dedication and love for our students.  Mr. Coyer was a teacher and coach at Kentucky
School for the Deaf for 29 years, retiring in May of 2003.  He then started substitute teaching for us. Last year, Mr. Coyer was hired as a year-long substitute teacher for a foreign Deaf student who had no language at all.  Mr. Coyer, in his capacity as substitute teacher, spent numerous hours during the school day teaching this young student the basics of sign language and English.  Unfortunately, Mr. Coyer’s allotted time to substitute teach ran out before the school year was over.  Mr. Coyer did not want to leave this student without a teacher, so he volunteered his time to teach this student every day for the full 7.5 hours of school!  Mr. Coyer did not want this student to have to get used to a new teacher the last month of school, so he gave of his time and expertise to help this student.  His dedication to this student is exemplary of the love and devotion he had and still has for education and Deaf students.  We appreciate him very much!!

Congrats Mr. Coyer, or Coach Coyer as some of you know him.
