Deafies not welcome at Yahoo! Video

Yahoo! Video is an idiot, and certainly a case of indirect discrimination.

Yahoo! Video states:

"Videos without audio will not be processed"

So that means videos using sign language, which will often be processed with no sound, cannot be uploaded. An extremely bad move.

Could you specify the link source for this statement?

This isn't a decision its a technical limitation for some codecs and transcoders. You can always include a "null audio track."

I would encourage you to complain directly to Yahoo.

Another suggestion: dig up the correct contact information to use for lodging complaints at yahoo.com, then post that contact information here. Encourage other deaf people to complain to yahoo too. If enough of us complain, they might rethink this policy. It is not only people who create vlogs who have reason to complain. Those of us who enjoy watching ASL vlogs also have good reason to be concerned about yahoo's policy.

If you can post the appropriate instructions here, then I would be very happy to be among the people complaining to yahoo -- I just need to know what email address to send my complaint to.

Thanks.

Technical limitation? That is a feeble excuse. Many and I mean many decent video codecs are perfectly capable of playing a video without audio:

Flash (FLV) - yes
Quicktime - yes
MPEG4 - yes
AVI - yes
Ogg Theora - yes

and so on.

Dunno about WMV...but I imagine it should be able to.

But it doesn't matter about the technical limitation - if you take a look at video.yahoo.com - you'll notice all videos are in Flash - and Flash video are perfectly happy to play without audio, so there is NO technical limitation whatsoever.

YouTube.com doesn't have a problem there.
