UPDATE on the winner of the International Breast-feeding symbol
Deaf artist Matt Daigle's finalist choice WON! Congratulations, Matt!
Hm, when I received an email from a deaf-blind friend last week about 3 different artworks being the finalist choices for an international breast-feeding symbol, the deaf-blind friend mentioned a "deaf-blind artist" being one of the 3 finalists. Not much was being said about the artist's background except the fact the finalist icon was created by a deaf-blind artist in which my friend encouraged me to vote and to pass on the message to my family and friends on voting for it.
In the Mothering interview with Matt Daigle, nothing was being said about his own disability, so therefore out of respect for the subject on breast-feeding, he explained the need to establish a recognizable symbol for the public, especially nursing mothers seeking out a private location to breast-feed their babies in public, without inviting stares or rude remarks. There is nothing wrong with mothers breast-feeding their babies in public, it's normal, natural and generally spur-of-the-moment - because babies often cry out for natural milk without a warning and mothers would stop, drop everything and proceed to breast-feed the babies, often in public.
Again, congratulations to Matt Daigle and thanks to many people who voted for his choice of an international breast-feeding symbol!
