Closed Gates: A Symbol Of No Communication
The outsiders see the closed gates. They see the attempts of the students when the gates were closed.
What they haven’t seen is that the closed gates are the symbol of no communication practiced between the Gallaudet Administrations and its stakeholders.
When Dr Fernandes was granted the position of the Provost, it was done without the permission of the faculty senate. They protested.
They were heard, but they were ignored.
When Dr Fernandes was illegally given tenure, again it was without the permission of the faculty senate. They protested by awarding her a no confidence vote.
They were heard, but they were ignored.
During the presidential search procedure, 81 % undergraduate students and 66% of the graduate students disapproved Dr Fernandes as a president. 64% of the faculty didn’t approve Dr Fernandes as a president.
The BoT appointed Dr Fernandes as the 9th president
They were heard, but they were ignored.
Students responded by closing down the gates.
The faculty senate awarded another no confidence vote.
FSSA was formed.
They were heard, but they were ignored.
