BREAKING NEWS
Gallaudet protesters locked down the College Hall administration
building in the early morning hours, the building that houses I. King
Jordan’s administration office. Campus police (according to one
source) later used bolt cutters to enter the building from a back door
and it is now confirmed that the building is no longer blockaded or
locked down. The protesters had put chains on the doors around College
Hall.
DPS (Deparment of Public Safety) and PPD (Physical Plant Dept)
personnel from Gallaudet at around 6:15 a.m. at the gate near the MSSD
school on Gallaudet’s campus and started to force the MSSD gate
re-opened. It is confirmed that they injured protester Brian Morrison,
who had his toe squished. A bulldozer was involved. PPD failed to
re-open the gate and the protesters are still blockading it and have it
secured.
The bulldozer picked up protesters possessions at MSSD gate and dumped
them in the front of the campus, about 100 yards to the right and up
the hill from the Gallaudet front Gate.
Apparently it was the Gallaudet administration who called the fire
department as a ploy–There was smoke coming from the grill at the
front gate which has always been used by protesters and there was no
fire emergency at all. The fire department rushed to the scene under
the impression that there was an emergency and they put out the
charcoal bricks that were smoldering in the grill. There was no fire
emergency whatsoever and the protesters are upset.
One protest leader sent this word:
QUOTE:
A lot of students are angry because DPS did it again. We are still
blocking MSSD’s gate.
UNQUOTE
“Did it again” refers to DPS using violence against the protesters
The same protest leader sent the following word about the temporary
takeover of College Hall:
QUOTE:
No one is [now] @ College Hall We left the building peacefully. We
accomplished what we wanted to do.
UNQUOTE
Moments ago, protest leaders sent out word that there will be an
emergency meeting for protesters at the front gate today (Wed, Oct 25,
2006).
Live news reporting began at 5 am with Jan Fox of Channel 9 and
continued intermittently into their 10 am news program:
