One nice thing about this protest is that it is, in the words of Steffi Ellis ('97), organic--meaning that various groups are popping up, like mushrooms after a rainfall, to take charge of various logistics and operations. Witness the football players' takeover of the entire campus *apart* from the 300-400 occupants of Hall Memorial Building nearly 2 weeks ago.
However, this non-centric model of leadership can be disconcerting as well. Alumni arriving onto campus have been left in the dark as to how they can help out. One way to alleviate this concern is with the sign-up sheet at www.mysignup.com/frontgate. Go to this link and sign up for a time slot to man the front gate, assist with food service at the white tent as needed, and give moral support to the hunger strikers.
Students have given a lot of themselves over the last 3+ weeks. They need to attend classes and take care of other business. This is your--alumni--chance to pitch in and help...all for a better Gallaudet!
P.S. This link will show up on the GUAA and FSSA websites soon, as well.
