Endless Pondering

NBC 4 News Has It Wrong

I spoke with Ryan several times this morning, the latest only one hour ago. The protest is still on and the request for people to come for the walk out still holds.

When will the news get it right?  Who has been feeding them misinformation?

Please call the media and inform them.

Gallaudet Students Vow To End Peaceful Protests Report: Board Of Trustees Could Hold Sunday Meeting Protesting students at Gallaudet University in northeast D.C. say they have called an end to peaceful demonstrations as of today. Students continue to block all but one entrance to Gallaudet in opposition to the appointment of incoming President Jane K. Fernandes. Demonstrations started in May when the Board of Trustees announced that Fernandes, who was then provost, would be president as of Jan. 1. Some students and faculty members have called for Fernandes to resign, but she has said she will not step down. Monday night, hundreds of students held a candlelight vigil for eight students who are on a hunger strike. Ambulances were called Sunday afternoon after five of the students reported feeling faint, but the students refused treatment and left on their own. The Washington Post is reporting that the school's board of trustees will hold a special meeting on Sunday at the university if their security can be guaranteed. The faculty voted Monday to recommend the investigation of the presidential search process and to ask for an independent mediator. They also want term limits and periodic evaluations of the president and to increase the sign-language requirement for tenured faculty. 1. I can’t believe that! Thanks for your hard work on this.

  2. It is the best to stay blocking the gates until BoTs choose a further & new president in the right process. But what if JKF won’t resign? She is still stubborn to be. What will King Jordan feel toward a new one instead of JKF? Perhaps, JKF would be removed by DPS if order in mandatory way. Good Luck in the future!

  3. Oh no! How hell did the people tell their stories to the report? They did on NBC4 Blog/Forum.

  4. Finally, nbc4.com changed the words to Gallaudet Students Protest Continue. :)

  5. NBC4 did not change the words until a writer confirms updating report from Gallaudet University later. I think
the AP reporters/writers are going over to Gallaudet and to find out more information on Gallaudet strikers and protestors.

  7. Hey!

I suggest that one of our protestors film and download their video clips to NBC4 at:
    http://www.nbc4.com/news/4983944/detail.html

So that we can proof them that protestors continue and
    never end until JFK resigns.

I hope our protestors are not quitting as of today.

  8. Robert, I swear that I saw the headline on nbc4.com website said Gallaudet Student Vow to End Peaceful Protest in the morning. Later, they changed the different one. It is updated.

  10. No, the protesters are still very strong. The insiders laughed when I told them the latest news.

Guess who may have sent the tip to the news? Does this remind us about the hacking of the SBG president where an e mail was sent to all students that the protest was over?

  11. The wording has be changed again. Does any have concrete info on this. Thanks

WASHINGTON — Protesting students at Gallaudet University in northeast D.C. said that they have called an end to peaceful demonstrations as of Tuesday and that people on campus can expect some disruption, News4’s Tracee Wilkins reported.

  12. Input in comment doesn’t work?!

Comment by Bay Area Guest | October 24, 2006

  13. Thank you so much for calling NBC4!:)

    Robert, good idea!

I certainly hope they are not taking in reports from the readers without verifying the information. Sigh, reporting isn’t as what it used to be.

  14. that forum in NBC 4 looks unbalanced.

  15. As I am writing this, I’m very worried about the safety and well-being of the students. Obviously, there was truth in nbc4’s report yesterday. The peaceful protests HAVE ended, now it seems the students are intent on disrupting the campus and have taken over College Hall. Please let nothing happen to anyone.

Comment by Old Friend | October 25, 2006

  16. What the headline was supposed to mean was that the peaceful protests will be discontinued, and non-peaceful protests will begin.

That’s poor writing by their staff at the TV station.
