One of the biggest challenges the protestors have had is articulating their message--not only to the outside media but also to various parts of the Gallaudet, and Deaf, communities. Sure enough, I've heard about 232 different reasons why Jane has to go. In an attempt to narrow it down, I asked 10 people on the street for their top reason that Jane should resign. Here goes:
- Karl Ewan, '93: ineffective leadership
- Jennifer Yost '97--even though good experience on paper, no people skills or leadership
- Seth Bravin, '96--poor track record and no credibility as a leader
- Kubby Rashid, '90--she's incompetent. She can't run Gally. She can't listen. I never once heard her admit she's wrong
- Dan Brubaker, '87: her administration will be crippled
- Josh Mendelson, CSUN alumnus: she couldn't prevent this situation from excaberating
- Stefanie Ellis, '97: the same person who fractured the university can't be the one to heal it
- Virginia Morford, '09: she has no people skills and is cold
- Kevin Kovacs, '94: Jane was pushed thru by King to be provost and was the beneficiary of King's influence on BoT
- Tom Holcomb, '80: stop the damage
Over the past day or two, people have also been saying that the protest is past the point of no return--either after the HMB incidents or after the arrests. Simply because of that, they feel, Jane should step down.

I am sorry, this is not a comment but rather a question. Can you give us an udpate on what is happening? What are the plans now that IKJ is still refusing to let Jane resign? What is the mood on the campus?
I do wish you all the best of luck.....however, it seems Jane Fernandez is here to stay. If I may make a suggestion...."let's all make the best of the situation and (yes even I am shuddering as I say this) rally behind Jane Fernandez and give her support. Contrary to your beliefs about her, she just may surprise you in a positive way. (We can only hope.)"
As I see it, the culprit is the Board, not Jane Fernandez. You can say all you want about how President Jordan pushed to have Jane Fernandez to be his successor. Obviously, he has confidence in her to be able to handle the job as President of Gallaudet. Look at all of the changes that has happened to Gallaudet since Jordan became President. Impressive to say the least, I say. Fernandez has big shoes to fill. A very big challenge. Can you not trust President Jordan in his way of reasoning that Jane Fernandez is the person for the job? It is the Boards' responsibilty to select his successor. The Board has the final say so. Perhaps the direction of effort here should really be the replacement of various Board members. So, if Jane Fernandez fails to do her job, then, she can and should be replaced. It will fall onto the Board to do something about it. It will be egg on their face.
So, what do you all say? I say "Come on let's give her a break and rally around her and give her support."
No?
