My First Captioned Video on YouTube!
Daniel Greene YouTube Annotations Originally uploaded by Daniel Greene When I signed on to YouTube this morning, I noticed a new feature called Annotations that allows you to add Speech Bubbles, Notes, and Spotlights to your videos. I realized right away that the first two of these types of annotations gave me a way to caption my videos. They [...]

How successful is cochlear implant?
Filipino Deaf from the Eyes of a Hearing Pers My last post made me think deeper. Are cochlear implants proven to have a high success rate? The reason why I'm having serious doubts is when I was putting sub-titles on the video, I'm having a hard time listening to the speeches made by those two kids who have undergone the implant. So instead of deciphering what he is saying, I simply put [inaudible speech].

An American Mom in Tuscany: Jordan's Cochlear Mother Fights System to Get Help For Deaf SonBy Brian WalzelEditor Published in the Tomball Magnolia TRIBUNEThe hours after a baby is born are supposed to be filled with happiness and elation, not shock and disbelief. TigerDeafie Genetics ‘stuff’ might have died somewhat with the virtual unopposed passage of Clause 14/4/9 of the HFE Bill in UK Parliament and burn out on the part of those of us who have spent so much time and emotional energy trying to bring to public awareness the consequences of Bill. But it looks like rearing [...]

Cell Phone Scams
Grant Laird Jr. ASL Video - Approx 3:39 Minutes Long Not too long ago, Grant discovered hidden premium fee on T-Mobile (Sidekick II) thru monthly statement online. Same thing goes with his Sprint Treo 755p, unfortunately. Grant probably lost few hundred dollars because he’s not paying attention to statement carefully. He looked up Google and discovered that he’s not alone. [...]

DBC: Confusing Messages
Mishka Zena Deaf Bilingualism Coalition began as a humble group with John Egbert and a handful of Deaf Leaders last July to discuss about promotion of ASL. DBC and AGB positions on ASL and CIs
The ASL-Cochlear Implant Community Please check this link out about AGB and DBC's position on ASL and cochlear implants. [link] Karla Gunn said it best- children with CIs can still learn ASL. However I was a little concerned when I read Ella Mae Lentz's remarks about CIs and repeating outdated information that only a small percentage of deaf children benefit from CIs. It seemed as

To close caption or not to close caption, who will rule?
A Radical Sabbatical New legislation is being put on the table which will require closed captioning on some internet videos.  Reading various sites, I see that many technology people are against closed captioning on the internet.  They feel the government will now get their hands on regulating and setting fines for videos not captioned.  At first, I was very [...]

Boys And Music Of Summer
Life In a Cone of Silence My love of music was contagious enough to be caught by my Dan, my son, many years ago. The car was the classroom of musical history in the formative years, as we crossed roads and highways of musical eras and genre. Likes and dislikes were determined and discussed. Preferences of mine were offered up as choices to fit in Dan's newly explored world. I had and have a v...

Sylmar!
SURROUND SOUND Several months ago, when we started getting serious about our plans to go to Reno, I mentioned to my friend Gloria Garner, who is a Web education specialist at Advanced Bionics, that while I was out west, I would love to travel just a little FURTHER west and visit the Advanced Bionics production facility in Sylmar, California. I knew that the plant did tours and basic...

Obama and Captioning
Don's Blog I noticed that most of the media on Barack Obama's website was not captioned. They did have a webpage that contained links to several captioned videos, but that's it: the rest of the website wasn't captioned with the exception of the disabilities issue page. So... I sent a message to the Obama administration: “There's a problem [...]
