So far, so good
Journey to Deaf Identity I'm doing well in graduate school, although a bit amused with teenagers here for 'summer camps' running around on campus (and pulling fire alarms- no difference between hearing and deaf kids when it comes to pulling fire alarms!) I'm officially a second-year graduate student, since I passed the quals (or if one prefers, comps), as I found out this week. I'm staying ...

submit by: Anthony Cedarburg - Eight-year-old Collin Mathias darts out of the house and heads for the basketball hoop, his younger brother and sister in tow. "Watch me, Mom," calls Ethen, 6. "Hey, that's my ball," 4-year-old Brandi protests before it rolls into the street, and Collin comes to the rescue with an "I've got it!"

DeafRead, Deaf Village, Aggregators, Part V: Flogging A...
All The Young Dudes I just love flogging deaf horses, don't you Mike? What about you, dog food? Mike, Hypocrisy? Double Standards? You be the judge. Update #1[A Response], what I was trying to say in DeafRead, Deaf Village, Aggregators, Part III: Argggggghhhhhccess, is that if deaf village is an aggregator, whose aim is to aggregate “content”, targeted at a specific aud...

DBC don’t need walls!
Oh I See.. Why is AGB organization still intent on building walls? Recent reports from a blog, AGBell.info has informed their readers that the Deaf Bilingual Coalition has learned from the Hyatt sales manager that they were compelled by the AGB conference organizers to "close off the inside walkway" that will block access from each other. Seriously, one has to wonder why do they...

Not Only Deaf--Today I Was Mute
DeafMom Every now and then I feel sorry for myself. I had a meeting today up in Northbrook and I knew I couldn't make it up there. So after I dropped the oldest kiddo off at football camp, I headed to the nearest Panera Bread to set up the laptop and call into the meeting. After several attempts to connect to the WIFI, I finally settled back to make the call. The f...

A Question of Statistics ?
At The Rim I'm a supporter of deaf village (My blog isn't there !), AND deaf.read, mainly because I approve of those who are prepared to challenge the status quo anyway. Why should anyone put up with a refusal to provide access from anyone ? There is no 'Right' of entitlement to do that. However, I was looking at the statistics of the DV site, in relation to claims from some ...

Texas Brings Random Contemplations on CLT Access
We Cue! As I write this, I am currently in what amounts to the middle of nowhere, central Texas, working as a volunteer at an archaeological field school, ready to sell a kingdom for a good hot biscuit, and surrounded by colonies of fire ants. I also have very limited internet, so y'all are very lucky to [...]

Stitches Out!!
icedpinkchampagne Yay!! I got my stitches out today! It is one week and one day since my surgery. But... why didn't anybody tell me it would hurt?! OH MY GOSH. It just really hurt because the stitches were tight and Dr. Rubenstein had to get little scissors and fit them under the stitches and snip them off, and of course the stitches moved a bit when he cut them. There was a point where...

Deaf have “Genetic Memory”?
Dr. DonG.'s Deafhood Discourses One of my favorite books was “Clan of the Cave Bear” by Jean Auel.  It was about a Human girl who gets adopted by a group of Neanderthals during the Ice Age.  The Neanderthals had the ability to have “genetic memory” so if one person learned or experienced something new, that information would be passed [...]

Musings of a Village Idiot (III)
At The Rim WorkI've led a chequered work life, my first real job was as an apprentice doing motor-control wiring. It was the best job I ever had, the factory I worked at was a family affair, I had Aunts, Uncles, cousins and a parent there, so my diminishing hearing was accepted and made allowance for, in as much as they spoke to my workmates instead of me, to 'make sure' he und...
