Silent Moments, My Story Wow! I don't know what other words to say other than all of you amaze me! The goal, $3,000, has been reached in about 3 days time. I was thinking it would take a lot longer than that. Thank you so much! My heart is so full right now! What's Next?At this point, we have done everything we could do to prepare for what we expect the outcome to be from the insurance. The fu...

Walking Among Angels
Silent Moments, My Story These past few days I feel as if I am walking among angels. Just as this little girl is guided along her path, I feel that God is doing the same for me through many of you around me. In a 24 hour period, we reached 1/3 of our goal. This is amazing and very humbling for me.A step closer to making sure I am still able to hear my son's laughter!

Facing The Truth • Part Two
Silent Moments, My Story Remember last years post titled "Facing The Truth?" It feels like yesterday that I wrote that and now it is time to face the reality. Consider this part two of "Facing The Truth." In that post, I spoke more about my right ear and the need to have surgery to get the upgrade. That will still happen but not just yet, at least not for another few years. (I hope) BUT, m...

Remember the Miracles
Silent Moments, My Story This past week my son reminded me to stop, reflect and remember the miracles. Between work, school, family and life it is easy to forget to do that. As I watched my son play in the yard and take the time to smell the flowers, I began to list some of the miracles I have witnessed over the last few months. Recent Miracles: The birth of our second son. T...

Behind The Lens
Silent Moments, My Story Ever had a moment where you took the time to know someone or a story behind a project and your perspective about that individual or project changes? I had a moment like that when reading the story behind the song “Forever” by Nathan Pacheco. For a long time, I found his songs beautiful but once I took the time to read the story behind this song, I developed a per...

It's Important. Be You!
Silent Moments, My Story Over the last few weeks, I have been able to collaborate with Renee, Founder & CEO at Olive Devices as a guest writer. It has been fun to work with Renee and learn about what they are trying to accomplish. A theme I noticed about her is that she is not afraid to be who she is. Below is the article I wrote titled, "It's Important. Be You!" You can learn more about Re...

Silent Moments, My Story Sundays are one of my favorite days of the week! As a family, we attend church and it is a challenge to keep a toddler calm and entertained during services and while my wife plays the organ. I have found that it is in those simple moments where God reminds me that everything is okay and that He is aware of our stage in life. Sometimes, it does not take a huge event to...

Facing The Truth
Silent Moments, My Story Finding out that I lost all my hearing at a young age was a hard truth to take in. It changes your life in more ways than one. However, when I got my Cochlear Implant and was able to hear again, there was joy in the air. Like any product, we don’t like to read or hear about the possibilities of product failure. Before getting my Cochlear Implant the doctors and audi...

Finding My Advocate Within
Silent Moments, My Story Last week I was speaking with a father who has a deaf son and one of his questions was, “When did you learn to advocate for yourself?” I thought about that question and I was trying to think of that one moment where I was okay and confident in advocating for myself with my hearing loss. But, there was no one moment that stood out to me, rather it was a series of e...

Finding The Next Chapter
Silent Moments, My Story Ever have those moments where you feel as if you are looking at the end of one chapter and not sure where the next chapter starts? It could be anything from trying to figure out what to major in, career path you want to take or what goals you want to achieve. It's a New Year!
Silent Moments, My Story It’s a New Year! The days approaching New Year’s Eve and following have been a learning experience as I watched my own backyard (the town) make national news about the floods here in Missouri. The main highway and most roads were shut down which made it almost impossible for me to get to work. There was one route that could be taken, but would make it a 2-hour comm...

Silent Moments, My Story Can you believe it? Christmas is only days away!?!? Last week I seemed to have lost track of time with a busy week at work, studying, taking final exams and late nights with Lucas. The weekend finally came and I am on a break in between semesters. I can't believe that this Friday is Christmas and I feel like time is just going by too fast. Over the weekend, I kept...

Falling into Place
Silent Moments, My Story On Monday morning, I was driving to work and contemplating what the day will bring. As I was doing so, a song came on the radio titled, "Just be Held" by Casting Crowns. As I listened to the words, this phrase stood out to me the most, "Your worlds not falling apart, it's falling into place." It got me thinking about the time Lucas spent in the NICU. The d...

Journey to Fatherhood: Lucas' Arrival
Silent Moments, My Story On Monday night after work, my wife and I went to my parents house for a bonfire where we would roast hot dogs, sit and talk around the fire, play games and have dessert. It felt like it had been a long time since we had a night like this. For the last few months, I have been busy with school, work and getting ready to welcome our little boy. While we were sitting ...

Silent Moments, My Story Earlier this month I wrote a post titled "Secrets to Greatness" and I mentioned that I had my right Cochlear Implant for 16 years. It is kind of hard for me to believe that it has been 16 years already. Sometimes I feel like I was born with Cochlear Implant as it feels so natural to me. I forgot about this tender picture of my mother and I, shortly after my surge...

He Hears Me
Silent Moments, My Story Just shy of 9 months ago, I found out that I was going to be a daddy. A greater sense of responsibility also came over me along with an urge to be better in everything. The thought of being perfect in everything is rather daunting. In my graphic design class, we talked about this quote which has been on my mind a lot lately, "Don’t try to be original, just try to be...

“Secrets to Greatness”
Silent Moments, My Story Recently I read “Secrets to Greatness” from the Fortune Magazine for one of my classes. The article talks about what is it takes to be great. After reading this article, I gained a new perspective on greatness and talents. Though many of us are naturally gifted in one or two things, we can become great in more. From the article, these three principles stood ou...

Rome Was Not Built In a Day
Silent Moments, My Story The last few weeks I have been thinking about my journey to hearing. At the end of next month it will mark 16 years since I got my first cochlear implant and witnessed the miracle of sound. It has not been a easy journey. Just as I toured England and France this past spring, I stood amazed at the castles and major landmarks that stand as wonders of the world. Ju...

Cochlear Implants & Paperclips
Silent Moments, My Story At 5:30am I am usually getting ready for the day with very little light as I don't want to disturb my wife. This morning I drove to work with this paperclip between my head and external magnet. This is what happens when I put them on in the dark. Looks like I will look more closely at what I place on my nightstand, where my Cochlear Implants rest each night. The ev...

Sounds of the Night
Silent Moments, My Story Last week one of my co-workers asked me if I sleep with my Cochlear Implants at night. I responded, "No, it would be uncomfortable and the batteries need to charge every night." He asked a few more questions and I asked a few back. One of the questions I asked was, "What sounds do you hear in the night?" His response was, "I sometimes hear the train miles away f...

Single to Married - Our Beautiful Life
Silent Moments, My Story It is one thing to be deaf, wear cochlear implants and be single. It is another thing to be deaf, wear cochlear implants and be married. I got married 38 days ago and I noticed that some things change when you’re married. My wife and I have many discussions about this. A common question I would ask to my wife, Heather, before we got married is, “What d...

Better Than a Hallelujah By David Cluff
Silent Moments, My Story This video is dedicated to my cousin, Tyler, who fell off a 150 foot cliff in November 2014. The fall left almost every bone broken. He is still alive and has a long recovery a head of him. Over the last few weeks I have learned God is real, answers prayers and often in a way we did not expect them to be. This is my favorite song and I am not perfect in my ASL bu...
