Project DeafRead Family!

Instead of doing a contest, DeafRead has a new project that will be fun and involves everyone with access to a webcam. Who knows? This project may finally break the ice for some of those unsure or nervous about putting videos of themselves online!

“DeafRead Family” members are found all over the globe, and it’s not always easy to visualize everyone at once, to remember who’s who in the deaf blogosphere. Hopefully, Project DeafRead Family will produce a video that does just this.

What you need to do to take a part of this project is to shoot a 10 second video of a DeafRead poster passing from one end of the screen to another. Whatever you do while the poster is being passed is up to you and your creativity!

The idea is: Each 10 second video will be put together to create one long video, showing the poster being passed through the deaf blogosphere.

I got this idea from the Google Gmail team, and am using their video as an example. Watch it to get an idea!

OK, for the video clip rules:

  1. 10 second time limit
  2. 2mb size limit
  3. Quicktime format
  4. Clearly display the DeafRead poster printed in color
  5. Pass the poster from the left side to right side (viewer’s perspective)
  6. Email to projectdeafreadfamily@gmail.com by midnight Pacific Standard Time, Sunday October 28, 2007

Download the DeafRead poster here (PDF).

Finally, here is a little surprise video produced by Jon Savage, our vlog specialist, to spearhead this project. In it are three example clips of what you can submit. Enjoy!

Looking forward to receiving and viewing your video submissions!

  4. Peachlady Says:

    Cool!

  5. Cynthia Roberson Says:

    Really Cool!
I need to take a class on what to buy and how to set it up…

  6. IamMine Says:

Wow!! So that’s one feature you spilled in the shower, Tayler! :D

    I think it’s a very cool idea!!

Jon, your girl is so darn cute and a COOL cat!

I hope this’ll break some fingers – er, ice with newcomers! :)

    Wha…. quicktime format? Well, I’m out then… pfft. ;)

Seriously… this is a great idea!

  7. Margaret Says:

LOL, It is fascinate to keep up with screen to pass around the Deaf Vlogger.

  8. JohnABC Says:

10 second limit time isn’t enough and should change to 30 second limit time.

  9. Deafread Fan Says:

    Sounds great!!!!

But one question is how can I transfer video clip to quicktime format? Although I have quicktime software but not pro quicktime. I am sure some of deaf ppl and I are not members of pro quicktime. So how can we transfer videoclip into quicktime format?

Looking forward hearing ur another tips :-)

  10. Sharon Duchesneau Says:

What a neat idea! Can’t wait to see how creative people can get!

  11. deafk Says:

    HEY,
That will be COOL!! I hope I could make it to videotaping..

I did not know camera can do that other than those webcams!! I will give it a try!

  12. daveynin Says:

JohnABC, I disagree with you. The 30-second clip is too long to combine multiple video clips into one master video clip… Do the math. It’s their project rules.

Don’t you see the idea of the video clip, as shown in very entry here?

10 second or less is reasonable and good enough to make.

  13. drmzz Says:

Looks like fun! Hmm, will think of something. Good job all.

  14. todos la vie Says:

Amy, yours made me laugh :-)

  15. Hana Says:

    Hey, that’s an awesome idea!!!

  16. Jean Boutcher Says:

the ones BY creaative deaf bloggers!

  17. JohnABC Says:

Hey daveynin: Amy’s videoclip is so cool with more than 20 second time (Can she make it to 10 second time?)

  18. White Ghost Says:

    Hey, Jon!

You kept advertising on DBC to nail AG Bell! They will make many cronies from AG Bell a miserable day! You did on purpose! :-)
    ;-)

  19. DeafDixie Says:

    Awesome!!!! hands waving….

  20. Tayler Mayer Says:

JohnABC, I understand that you’d think more time allows for more creativity–but in fact, with less time, you’re pressed for even more creativity in order to pull it off in 10 seconds! :)

  21. LaRonda Says:

Tayler, you shower clip was awesome!! I cracked up. Brave you! I’m so excited! I’m ready to play! Count on my clip soon!

  23. Tayler Mayer Says:

re: Converting AVI or WMV to Quicktime (MOV)

Tutorial and Download Link (free). Uses SUPER © software.

Alternatively, you may want to try Apex Video Converter (free). Download link on bottom.

Let me know how it works out for you.

  24. todoslavie Says:

I think Johnabc wanted more time to use his scary fake teeth.

  25. Tayler Mayer Says:

Then you, todoslavie, should be grateful the limit is set to 10 seconds because we couldn’t handle it a single second longer :)

Folks, gwlj posted a great website to convert videos to Quicktime. I haven’t tried it, but found that it does convert from both AVI and WMV to Quicktime. If you don’t want the hassles of downloading and installing software, this website may be for you!

    Thanks gwlj!

  26. IamMine Says:

Uh oh…you figured it out for me, eh?

    *gulps*

Ok, you’ve got that figured out…

Well, see if you can figure this one out for me!

I lack creativity…so what you going to do about that? I believe I *may* speak for many!
    :P

  27. Tayler Mayer Says:

IamMine, It doesn’t have to be creative. Just seeing you passing the poster is enough. Bring it up a notch if you want. :)

    Here’s some ideas:

    running
    biking
    eating
    sleeping
    cooking
    brushing teeth
    watering plants
    picking up mail

I think that’s enough. :) Creative juices flowing yet?

  28. Deafread Fan Says:

    GWLJ and Tayler Mayer,

Yeah it really works. Thank for ur wondeful help and tip!
    :-)
