Welcome to the beginning of the DeafRead 2007 Blog Awards.
We will have our second 2007 Awards Banquet at the first DeafRead conference on February 2, 2008. In the evening, following dinner at Embassy Suites-Burlingame on the bay, we will be announcing the 2007 Blog Awards winners.
The first step for this year’s Blog Awards is to open the nominations!
Anyone can nominate any deaf-related blog by sending e-mail to 2007blogawards@gmail.com. The following is required in your e-mail:
- Blog Name
- Address/URL
- Award Category
- Brief description why you are nominating the blog for that specific category. Please keep the description to 1 or 2 sentences.
These are this year’s 16 categories.

You can nominate a blog to multiple categories, as well as nominate more than one blog. In consideration of the DeafRead staff’s time and effort, please try to consolidate your nominations in one e-mail.
The DeafRead Team will pick the 5 most nominated blogs for each category. These 5 blogs will be voted upon by you, starting shortly after nominations are closed.
Keep in mind, this is for the year 2007. Entries published in any other year should not be factored in your nominations.
The deadline for nominations is midnight Sunday, January 6, 2008. Again, the e-mail address is 2007blogawards@gmail.com. Nominate away!

How do we know which posts are by hearing people for the Best Hearing Ally Blog? DeafRead has removed the colored box to identify hearing posts. It was a neat idea/compromise before for Deaf people who wanted Deaf space only. Any chance DeafRead can put it back to make it easier for us to identify which ones are by hearing or Deaf?
How about at least one award for Deaf Youth. It’s important to encourage Deaf youth because they are the future of the Deaf community. More and more organizations are including youth (i.e. Maryland Association for the Deaf started their first Deaf Youth Leadership Award this year).

Best Youth blog (under 18 yrs old) has been added as a category. Visit DeafRead Youth to find some of the brave pioneers for this category.
Note that DeafRead Youth, as a website, isn’t quite ready for primetime.

Thanks, Jean. I feel there isn’t enough potential contestants to warrant a category for each blogs and vlogs. Looking forward to seeing this spectrum of the blogosphere to expand in 2008! Meanwhile, “Blog” will take the umbrella term of covering both blogs and vlogs. After all, vlogs are video clips on a blog.

Best Odd/Unusual Blog should be Most Odd/Unusual Blog

“Best” blog is best in quality. “Most odd/unusual” is not best in quality, but is the most strange!

for best v/blog design, how do we know which blogs are actually designed by bloggers, not using themes? what if the bloggers used a basic theme and customized it to their likings, would that be considered designed by the bloggers themselves? thanks-
December 15th, 2007 at 4:41 pm

December 15th, 2007 at 4:46 pm

Do you realize that there are a lot of new v/blogs of 2007? I find it hard to decide on “new v/blogs” catergory.
I am sure that there will be less next year or two. Hmm?
Thanks… kk

Hi,
Umm, I would like to make suggestion on nominations. I would like the description behind each nomination to help me make decision better. Some nomination are easy for me to make decision, but some other nominations are not easy, like Concept/ Idea, Odd/ Unusual, Advocacy, and its like? I do not know if it was only me, but…
Maybe the descriptions narrow the nominations, maybe not good idea?
Okay, thank you. deafk

May I suggest a list of the blogs? I can’t possibly recall the names of blogs on Deafread by memory. Thanks.

A list of blogs is available by clicking “Blogs” on the right-most column of DeafRead. To make it easier, here’s the link!
